This live recording was done during our church service this past Wednesday at Allied Nursing home. The Old Rugged Cross is being sung by special request from a lady whose Mom had recently passed away at our facility. Because of Hipaa rules we couldn’t show the faces of any of the residents but you can hear them as they sometimes they join in the singing.
If you are doing music ministry at a nursing home I would encourage you to make eye contact and be as close as you can to your people. The purpose of our music is not so much to entertain as to draw out people into joining in worship with hymns such as The Old Rugged Cross. For more information on nursing home ministry please feel free to contact me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. There are many training and inspirational videos available at the Youtube channel Pastorpete51 and some books and training manuals for a minimal cost on Amazon. Have a blessed week and thank you for taking time out of your day to listen!
This is the first in a short seminar on Music Ministry in nursing homes. We filmed this live at a youth meeting last week and have broken it into three parts: Structure (the songs that go into the service) Presentation, and relationship. To put this in computer terms we have the hardware, software and operating system. There are a lot of practical insights that will help anyone either already involved or wanting to get started in nursing home outreach. With the holidays nearly upon us, now is the perfect time to begin planning at least one visit to a nursing home in your community. We are hoping to go to our home once for Thanksgiving and once for Christmas. God bless you as you commit to this needed ministry!
As I was singing for nursing home ministry several years ago one of the ladies asked me, “What have you surrendered?” That was a difficult question but is one that we should each ask ourselves each day. “What have I surrendered today?”
Ministry everywhere is about being in the place of a servant and being a servant is about surrender. I pray you will be blessed and challenged today to surrender one more thing to Christ. Be blessed as you do!
