The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe. Proverbs 18:10 ESV
The Saturday before Hurricane Ian came to call, we had a wonderful time praising God at our monthly Sunshine Village meeting. I had just finished an opening praise song when I was unexpectedly interrupted by Marie. It was a song she vividly remembered because more than twenty years back she had received a miraculous healing from Asthma, while singing it in church. I love her statement, “Don’t be shy to give God the glory!” We are not shy about yelling for our football team or against candidate X – Y or Z in an election. Why should we miss out on giving God all the credit He deserves when He gives us an opportunity? Have a blessed day all and pray for us as our outreach grows a little each month as we share the love and hope we have found in Jesus Christ!
Behold, bless ye the Lord, all ye servants of the Lord, which by night stand in the house of the Lord. Psalm 134:1 KJV
Okay – so this will never make a million likes on YouTube, but for those involved in nursing home ministry, hearing testimonies is a blessing. The once-a-month Saturday crowd at Sunshine is a mixed group with both independent living folks as well as assisted living people joining in one meeting. These folks are some of my liveliest if they are given the chance. We sing a little more than just hymns and the residents love to lead worship, preach, raise offerings and just about anything else you would see in your local church. I hope you will be blessed by our video this week. If you enjoy listening to their testimonies, there is a second one in the works for next week, so stay tuned!
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses Matthew 8:17
If we think that God is so intimately concerned with our physical needs that He has counted even the number of hairs on our head. We have a great hope that whether in this life or in the next; God will heal every disease, restore all that is broken and renew our youth like the eagles!
Whether sitting in a wheel chair in a nursing home or confined to a bed with a tracheotomy tube in order to breathe, Jesus offers the hope of complete and entire healing as one part of His promise of eternal life. That promise may be overlooked or forgotten by we who are in perfect health, yet God does not forget. The same Jesus who was moved with compassion for lepers, the blind and the lame has promised to wipe every tear from our eyes. He not only has compassion for our aches, pains and disabilities but the Bible tells us that He took all of these onto his shoulders and carried them. If we continue reading in the chapter of Isaiah that Matthew quotes we see that in the very next verse that it is by His stripes that we are healed. God is so very concerned for every one of our pains and infirmities that He allowed a whip to fall across the shoulders of Jesus. As He was wounded again and again we were being healed. Weak arms will be lifted, failing voices will sing again and deaf ears will hear the shepherd’s voice! Yes we have the hope of healing! When the temporary things of earth have passed we will stand strong and eternally young in the presence of our ageless King!
A bruised Reed He will not break and a smoldering wick He will not quench until He brings forth justice to victory. Matthew 12:20
Just last week another house in our neighborhood was condemned and demolished. The house had the unfortunate problem of being too close to a storm sewer project gone awry. All the digging, rock breaking and steam rolling weakened it’s foundation. Once decided on the removal of 60 years of family dinners, children playing, and Christmas celebrations took just a few days.
Around us every day are people just like that little home. Their biggest dreams and most careful plans are often undermined by someone else’s important project. Happy memories fade in the face of dark reality. They teeter just at the edge of life’s cliff. But the King who came to heal wounds and shine in darkness has put us right next to them. He has lit the fire of hope in our lives and by His wounds we have a healing message to share! Whether we wish to be in the demolition or construction business is a choice God is leaving up to us every day! What will you do for the Master builder today?
