The Power to Change the World

For anyone who is struggling with the frustrating sense of uselessness let me tell you about my good friend Ann. Ann* (not her real name) passed away just before Valentine’s day. For the last three years she came almost every week to our church service in the respiratory unit at the nursing home. Because of her trach it was hard to understand much of what Ann said. But Ann has changed the world. Her consistent faithful presence was noticed by her daughter who also began coming many Wednesday afternoons.

When her daughter moved into an assisted living facility across town visiting became more difficult so Ann asked if I would be willing to go there for meetings as well. That invitation opened the door in a care home for those with emotional and mental disability. Every week we meet to sing eat cookies and pray. It is not neatly organized. Sometimes we even border on chaos! -but God is doing a special work in hearts there today because Ann chose to believe that she could still change her world! Ann’s God is still ready to use anyone of us who is willing to believe. Nothing is too difficult for God!

My wife and I serve as members of a worship team at a multicultural church. Our members are from Brazil, Nepal and the U.S.. Because of the many languages and cultures in our local body we face unique challenges, such as how many songs will we do in English today? What new songs can we use in either language that are simple enough for the people to sing. The songs, the devotions and insights here are a small portion of some of the ways God is leading us as we push towards the goal. I pray that these will be both a blessing and an encouragement for those of you who may pass by Praise 2 Worship.
