The Olympic flame has been carried over the distance of 20,000 kilometers throughout Brazil by 10,000 runners. Tomorrow, August fifth, the flame will finally be lit in Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro. That run has not been about who was the fastest or who was the best athlete. The torch relay has been about carrying the torch until the flame is lit.
Last night at Allied Services our youth and some of the parents took hold of the torch for themselves as we together presented the Lord’s prayer, sang some songs and passed out cookies. We dressed as different kinds of people and then one by one spoke our individual parts of the “Our Father” prayer to the residents. One came as a nurse, another a soccer player, one was an FBI agent and another a pastor. We are from all different backgrounds, races, cultures and languages but we all share the same Father. He really is our Father!
To learn more about how you can carry the torch and help to light the flame in nursing home ministry we have two short books with workshop sessions. These are practical resources that anyone can use in their local community and through your local church.
These are both are in e-book format and are available on Amazon.
